The 2024 edition of Play the Future provided a glimpse into a more sustainable future, where architecture, tourism, and experiences come together to create new opportunities.

With a unique blend of creativity and innovation, the event showcased projects that reinterpret the territory in a sustainable way, combining tradition with modernity. The awarded projects represent a perfect synthesis of visionary design and respect for the natural context, demonstrating how local heritage can be enhanced through innovative solutions:

• STAR HUNTERS by Team ATOMA, the first-prize winner, offers a unique immersive experience through a suspended walkway with capsules designed for direct contact with nature.
• MODULAR BRÈ by Team GUEL envisions modular housing that integrates seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, using eco-friendly materials.
• PARC DU POM ROSÈ by Team FGSXGROUP focuses on a harmonious dialogue with the mountain, featuring triangular accommodations that follow the terrain and are surrounded by native pom rosé trees, a symbol of Monte Brè.

A successful event in numbers

Beyond the ideas, the numbers speak for themselves: Play the Future 2024 recorded 5.300 visitors on the website, a social media reach of 263.255 people, and significant interest in the metaverse, with 2.425 accesses in 30 days. Participation extended beyond national borders, with teams and participants from 10 different nationalities, reaffirming the event’s international appeal.

The jury’s vision

The jury’s work, led by Gino Boila, Director of Public Building Division for the City of Lugano, was instrumental to the success of this edition. Their expertise ensured that projects were evaluated not only for their originality but also for their potential for practical implementation.

Looking ahead

Once again, this edition demonstrated how Play the Future can serve as a platform for imagining new perspectives for Lugano and the surrounding region. From experiential tourism to sustainable architecture, the event paved the way for projects capable of redefining the concept of beauty and innovation.
